Selecting photos for a bas-relief.

Preferred poses.

Preferred poses.

Preferred poses.

  • Landscapes and objects can be included and will be elevated for effect.
  • Although we can turn any photo or painting into a bas-relief, please note that sculptures are different than photos. It's important that the subjects' gaze is not at the camera but rather inward at another subject or at an object.

Color.

  • If you wish, we can add color to old black and white photos at no extra charge. Please specify what colors you would like (ideally give a sample color).

Taking many photos for an ultra realistic sculpture.

In this method, a computer plays the major role in turning many photos into a single 3D-image.

With detailed descriptions, demonstrations and a computer animation, we'll show you how to use a method to take 96 photos from all angles.

Taking 10 or fewer photos for a sculpture by an artist.

  • Please take a photo from the front, back and each side while the subject(s) pose. The more photos, the better.
  • Please see the below section for tips on preferred poses including;
    • focus eyes inward, such as at other subject(s) or objects;
    • remove hats with brims or veils.

  • Sculptures are much different than photos or paintings.
  • Except for a traditional-style bust, It far better if the subject(s) is being observed rather than looking at the observer.
  • Eyes should be directed inward such as at another subject or an object.

  • Sculptures that end at the mid-chest or waist are preferred over full-body poses because the  upper body will be much larger so the facial details will be more distinct and recognizable.
  • If appropriate: smile! Especially if the subjects are looking at each other.
